Slipped capital femoral epiphysis in adults: case report and review of literature.
Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) mainly affects overweight prepubertal children. It is usually idiopathic, but endocrinological diseases are proposed as the main cause. SCFE occurs before the closing of the femoral physis, which generally occurs at 18 years in males and 16 years in females, therefore it is considered a children's disease. However, there have been several reports of adul...
متن کاملSuprasellar Germinoma Presenting with Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis: Case Report
Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a fracture that results from displacement of the proximal femoral epiphysis from the femoral neck. SCFE can be caused by various endocrinopathies that lead to bone weakening in both adult and pediatric patients. We report a rare case of suprasellar germinoma presenting with SCFE in an 11-year-old female patient. The findings of this case further suppo...
متن کاملValgus Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis in Patient with Hypopituitarism
Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a common disease of adolescent and the epiphysis is positioned more posteromedially in relation to the femoral neck shaft with varus SCFE; however, posterolateral displacement of the capital epiphysis, valgus SCFE, occurs less frequently. We report a case of valgus SCFE in a 17-year-old boy with hypopituitarism. After falling down, he experienced diff...
متن کاملGigantism associated with slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
The etiology of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is unknown, though hormonal as well as mechanical factors have been implicated. We report a case of gigantism who presented with SCFE. This case provides an insight into the genesis of SCFE, which in this case was related to growth hormone excess and sex-hormone deficiency.
متن کاملManagement outcome and the role of manipulation in slipped capital femoral epiphysis
Purpose. To examine and compare treatment outcomes for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). Methods. 24 patients with acute or acute-on-chronic SCFE underwent preoperative traction, 13 of them followed by in situ screw fixation (group A), and the remaining 11, manipulation with screw fixation (group B). Their treatment outcomes (according to the Aadalen criteria) and complications were com...
